Collection | Windsor Constables' Order Books |
Description | This volume records the various activities of the Governor of Windsor Castle, both in that capacity and also as Lord Lieutenant of the counties of Norfolk, Surrey and Berkshire. Many entries are signed by Francis Negus, who seems to have acted as secretary to the Governor. It contains mostly warrants and orders: of particular interest; orders for calling out the militia on the occasion of the Duke of Monmouth's invasion (pp. 134-135); a warrant appointing John Browne, Chirurgion, to be Surgeon to their Majesties' garrison of the Castle of Windsor (p. 226). |
