| Description | After having thanked the Arrans for their kind hospitality, Augusta proceeds to tell them about her last visit to Lord Egremont [George O'Brien Wyndham, 3rd Earl of Egremont] in Petworth; there she met George FitzClarence (illegitimate son of William, the Duke of Clarence, brother of Augusta) with his wife [Lady Mary Windham, Lord Egremont's daughter]. Augusta remarks that she likes Mrs FitzClarence. She, then, goes on to describes the beautiful paintings and statues in the house - she refers, in particular, to "Portraits, chiefly Van Dyke's". She is now going back home and will be meeting with Mary [Princess Mary, Duchess of Gloucester and Edinburgh], Princess Sophia and Mrs Stanhope. Frederick's health [Prince Frederick, Duke of York and Albany] did not improve but Sir Henry Halford is now trying a new medicine and advices that no one should visit him for a few days. The King is also in bed. |
