Description	This series contains most of the surviving journals kept by Queen Victoria from 1832 until her death in 1901. There are three main versions of the journal: the 13 original volumes of Princess Victoria from 1832-1836; the typed copies of the first 28 original journals made by Lord Esher, dating 1832-1840; and the abridged copies made by Princess Beatrice after her mother's death, dating from 1837-1901. There is also a small group of loose drawings from the early journals and a copy of the rough notes of the journal for 1900. Also included are the so-called 'Hindustani Diaries' dating from 1893 to 1899. Finally there is a group of later copies and abstracts from the journals on various topics.

Contemporary copies of diaries relating to inward and outward State Visits for 1843-1845 are in VIC/MAIN/Z/277-279, while notes for those for 1855-1857 are in VIC/MAIN/Z/263.
