ReferenceGEO/ADD/52/1
TitleWindsor Castle Governor's Book
Date1668-1671
DescriptionThe volume is preceded by an index of the contents of the first part
It includes Charles II's patents to Prince Rupert [of the Rhine], appointing him Constable of Windsor Castle, followed by Rupert's letters, proposals and warrants [not in Rupert's handwriting].
Owen Morshead Esq., Royal Librarian, wrote a note at the beginning of the volume (f.7r) which reads: "Because this book lacks a title I have named it 'Windsor Castle: Governor's Book, 1668-1671'. Evidently there was originally a second volume, carrying the record up to 1695: but of this only the Index has survived". The note is dated March 1954
