TitleLetter from Queen Charlotte to Prince William on family matters
Date28 July 1780
WriterCharlotte, Queen Consort
AddresseeWilliam, Prince (1765-1837)
DescriptionThe Queen took great pleasure in reading William's last letter in which he revealed the sadness he felt at leaving Kew and his family - this is a very Christian feeling that William should always pursue.
She is glad to know that the Admiral and Majendie are taking care of him; she urges him to strive for perfection and 'to do better that the rest of the World' as she could not bear him being only 'Mediocre'.
She confirms that the King is reconciled with his brothers and that the Duke of Cumberland [Prince Henry, Duke of Cumberland and Strathearn] is at Court and the Duke of Gloucester [Prince William, Duke of Gloucester and Edinburgh] is in poor health.
