| Admin History | Born 1711 at the palace of Herrenhausen in Hanover, Germany, Amelia Sophia Elenora was the second daughter of Georg August (later George II) and his wife Caroline of Brandenburg-Ansbach. Amelia moved to England in October 1714 with her parents and her sisters, Anne and Caroline Elizabeth, following the accession of her grandfather George I. Following the death of her mother in 1737, Amelia became the highest-rank woman at Court; unmarried, Amelia and her sister Caroline maintained their own households. Amelia's appointment as Ranger of Richmond Park in 1751 provided her with New Lodge, her own residence, until 1761 when it was transferred to John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute. Losing her apartments at St James's Palace after the death of her father, Amelia bought Gunnersbury House in Ealing, Middlesex where she lived out her remaining years before dying at her house in Cavendish Square, London, 31 October 1786. |
