Description | A collection of papers, mostly relating to Queen Adelaide's will and instructions for her funeral - with the exception of the first three letters from the Queen Dowager to the Duchess of Gloucester and the Duchess of Cambridge. It also includes a memorandum typewritten by Sir Owen Morshead, Royal Librarian, and concerning the nature and provenance of those instructions. As noted by Sir Morshead and as it appears from another letter here [GEO/MAIN/37122] many copies of Adelaide's instructions for her funeral were produced at that time and also appeared in print in the London Gazette.
The bulk of the collection is made up of letters written by Sir Charles Young, Garter Principal King-of-Arms, to Sir Charles Phipps, Keeper of the Privy Purse, concerning the arrangements to be made for Queen Adelaide's funeral, including the plan of seating in St George's Chapel. |
