| Description | The Prince reports that the fleet proceeding towards Quebec has being slowed down by thick fog and contrary winds. When the weather improved and they could move again, Prince William fell seriously ill, so that he was forced to leave the ship and rest in Louisbourg Harbour - with the idea of re-joining the expedition as soon as he recovered. The illness, mainly consisting of rheumatism and fever, was due to the sudden change of climate. He describes the town of Louisbourg, its fortifications, inhabitants and economy and finds this place so proper for a colony that he should be happy to be entrusted with its Naval Department.
At the end of July he sailed towards Quebec to join the Commodore. |
