TitleLetter from the Duke of Clarence to Colonel John McMahon
Date9 June 1814
WriterClarence and St Andrews, William, Duke of
AddresseeMcMahon, John, Colonel
DescriptionHe sends, enclosed [GEO/MAIN/45116-45117] a letter he wrote in reply to Lord Melville's communications ordering the Duke to haul his Flag down. Given his most recent, successful enterprises (eg. bringing back the King of France and carrying the allied Sovereigns to England) carried out in the name of the Prince Regent and for the glory of the country, the Duke finds this order outrageous. He hopes the Prince Regent will allow him to keep the flag flying.
